What We're Teaching
02/15/2019 10:00 AM- Artful Rapier Guards of Giganti
n this class we will explore the concepts and uses of Giganti’s “Artful Guards” as described in his 1606 text.
These rapier and dagger guards/plays offer a great insight into Gagniti’s fencing style and open the doors to greater exploration of the unspoken communication between two fencers.
Some loaner gear will be available however please bring a gorget, mask, rapier, dagger, and other desired gear if you have them.
This class is open to all but a basic understanding of rapier fencing will be useful.
Instructor: Ryan Shapiro
02/16/2019 02:45 PM- Sidesword: 3 Ways to Control the Start of the Fight
Throughout Marozzo’s rich text, he uses a repeatable series of techniques to guide the opponent’s entrance into the fight.
Once the opponent is on one of these paths, they are quickly struck. We will explore three different approaches, which apply to a multitude of scenarios.
This flexible 3-part lesson works with bucklers/shields or without. If you have one, please feel free to bring it.
Flexible for sword alone or sword & shield
Instructor: Gary Chelak
02/16/2019 06:15 PM- Joachim Meyer's Dussack
This class will present fundamental and intriguing techniques for dussack play from Joachim Meyer's seminal 1570 text. We will be working both form and light contact/slow drilling, so there will be room
for all interest levels. Students should come with protection that suits their level of contact interest, no armor will work form only, Mask and elbow pads at minimum for slow contact, additional torso
and forearm protection for more up tempo work. If possible bring a wood, leather, or synthetic dussack, messer, or stota simulator. Some loaners will be available on a first come-first served basis.
