Caleb Hallgren

Italian Rapier, Swetnam Rapier

Caleb Hallgren is a Tattershall teacher currently residing in greater Columbia, SC area.

He has been practicing historical swordsmanship since 2003 when he first purchased Guy Windsor's 'Swordsman's Companion' at his local Borders bookstore. He joined Tattershall in 2015 on the day he moved to Southern California and studied with Gary and Jeff until 2017 when a military assignment relocated him to Texas, and again to South Carolina in 2019.

Caleb is more widely known in the Society for Creative Anachronsim (SCA) as Don Julien de la Fontaine and is a member of the Order of the White Scarf with multiple baronial championships under his belt as well as Queen's Rapier Champion in the Outlands. He travels often to study, and besides pilgrimages back to Tattershall Long Beach, he has a close training relationship with Devon Boorman of Academie Duello in Vancouver, BC as well as Guy Windsor in Ipswich in the UK.

He primarily teaches Italian Rapier and Swetnam Rapier, but has a large HEMA library and has a layman's knowledge of most European swordsmanship manuals through the mid-1600's. He runs a travelling school for private instruction at SCA events in Atlantia and can be found at the local practices of the Canton of Cyddlan Downs at Irmo Community Park in Irmo, SC on Tuesday evenings from 6-8pm and at Owens Field Park in Columbia, SC on Thursday evenings from 6-8pm.
